Thanks to all who contributed patches. 09-24-2003 Manu bugfixes/tweaks were added, as the notes below. However, I decided to force my will upon you and link to the old Goom visualization library. I simply find it to be more colourful w/ more neat stuff happening. It however does not have the "tentacles" that goom 1.99 did. However, it also does not have the annoying white screens and sometimes long pauses with nothing happening. If you care greatly about this, create a thread on xbox-scene.com w/ a vote for this; I shall read it and either keep this lib or move it back to what you've been used to for the last 5 months. The only solution i found was closing & re-opening the file when switching audio streams. Not very nice, but at least it now works VOBSUB If a 'bug' was encountered in a vobsub file it didnt play, this has been fixed If vobsub didnt contain the preferred language specified in settings->decoder no subtitles where shown. Now it shows the 1st subtitle of the vobsub file in such case local subtitle directory if you got a file on cd(rw) for example which filename > 40 chars then now xbmp will search for the subtitle in the local subtitle directory using the 1st 40 chars of the filename Volume The volume is now kept when playing multiple (mp3) files Previous it always went back to max. volume Start applications before starting applications as much memory is freed & threads are stopped. Hopefully this solves the weird problem that some applications cant b started via xbmp SMB SMB was broken and not working anymore. Some of us do have lives :) Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 999,Only show default applications in My Programs. There was a bug introduced yesterday that caused video playback to be black unless you played an xvid (after which all video played perfectly). This has been fixed. - added separate local subtitle directory where ppl can store all their subtitles - support for compressed vobsub subtitles - fix 712598 Black screen 3-30-2003 Config.xml updated to disable by default, and list the ip of 207.46.248.43 instead of time.windows.com. - if disabled in config.xml dont try to sync time - switch to XVID dev-api-4 3-29-2003 - latest xvid dev-api-3 codec 3-28-2003 Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 806,Video for System Settings - xbfilezilla 1.3.0.1 Fixes [710643 (FTP) files and folders missing ] - latest update from "708726 System info in settings (with net, temp and storage stats) " 3-27-2003 According to the XBMP forums (from frodo) you can disable the timeserver lookups by remvoving the hostname/ip in the tag. ie: . There also seems to be a new fix in cvs to stop the crashing that some of you are having. New clipping/cropping settings in settings-> screen-> clipping. Lang-1.xml updated with these tuples: 740,White button to reset,741,Black button to auto-clip. IMDB has new features: All Genres shown, User rating with number of votes, Top #250 place, Cast overview. CVS Notes: - Only sync time with timeserver & started with maximum of 3 retries - Auto clipping/cropping added to settings->screen->clipping - reset clipping when starting another movie - Fixes problem with 4MEG pixel pictures which didnt show after playing a movie - latest patch for imdb 3-26-2003 Nothing too exciting today. Config.xml updated with example shortcuts to your dirs. DVD Menus not there yet. Today is mostly internal code changes, no features/bugfixes. With the changes in DVD code, it seems that clicking on a VIDEO_TS.IFO takes ~20 seconds to begin playback of the DVD, which is longer than it was recently. - dvdread 0.94 - cleaned up some compiler warnings - work around for vc++ attribute packing bug 3-25-2003 Lang-1.xml updated with tuples for system info. - [709513 ] Updates to calibration screen - fix hangup hopefully when timeserver not reachable - synced with mplayer 0.90rc5 & latest ffmpeg - initial checking for dvdnav - fixed DVDNAV area to open the device rather than the XBMP stream url - fixed return values to what dvdnav_stream expects 3-24-2003 XBMP now supports SNTP! (time syncing, Simple Network Time Protocol). This was mainly implimented because the TV Guide option would break if your xbox time were invalid. It's also useful to have your time up to date if you use XBMP as a dash. tag added to config.xml, you may leave it as default. Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 800,System. In 'Settings' is a new 'System' tag. This shows nice info about your xbox: IP address, mac address, time w/ seconds, temperature, hdd space, dhcp/satic, link status; nice. - new system status UI screen - Fetch date/time from external time server using sntp. 3-23-2003 Nothing warranting a build in the last two days, so no build was released. The DVD Nav libs were checked in to CVS, but they are/were not functional as of yet. These bugs were fixed today, however: - fix 707045 Error in application bookm - fixed 701456 Changing Aspect ratio with left thumbstick doesnt work anymore - fix "[ 703974 ] Incoherences when pressing INFO during audio playback" - fix scratchy sound for mpg files - libdvdnav patch (disabled for now) - fix "687831 only 25 mp3 on a iso9960 cdr " 3-20-2003 You now can hide some of the "techie" info that shows up on the main XBMP screen by setting to "false" in config.xml. Also, you now can show which root categories show up (TV Guide, My Music, etc) by setting the tag to "true" or "false". TV Guide was set to false by default, so if you use it, turn it back on. Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 528, Display Name which corresponds to new TV Guide updates. Also tuples 523-525 have been renamed. - included schatten's new tvguide updates - FR 705307 - Ability to choose which categories show up in root page. - FR 706743 - Toggle display of IP/Disk Space/Build Info on Main Screen (Added to config.xml) 3-19-2003 - tvguide: show icons for channels. Just store the .jpg picture for each channel in the local thumbs directory and xbmp will show it - show markers if program continues 'out of screen' 3-18-2003 One thing only: - show real channel names in tvguide 3-17-2003 New tvguide function added. This has added several files. In xbmp's home dir is listing.xml. The Media dir has 3 new xpr files (tvguide*.xpr). Lang-1 updated with eight new tuples; 520 through 527. Now, to explain how to use the TV Guide, here is a paste from the author of this code: [==== begin paste ====] Instructions for generating the show listing file, listing.xml ---------------------------------------------------------------- This tv guide feature was designed to use data from xmltv Info on xmltv can be found at: http://membled.com/work/apps/xmltv/ The quickstart info: 1. Get the latest xmltv windows binary from Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=39046 (current latest win32 binary is xmltv-0.5.8-win32.zip) 2. Unzip xmltv-0.5.8-win32.zip somewhere 3. Open up a Command Prompt, and go to where you unzipped xmltv 4. Type the following: xmltv tv_grab_na --configure (if you're not from North America, use tv_grab_uk or whatever applies to your region, a list is given if you run xmltv without parameters) 5. Answer the questions asked by the xmltv configuration process 6. Now that you're configured, type: xmltv tv_grab_na > listing.xml 7. Now that you have the listing.xml file, ftp it to your xbox, it goes in your xbmp home directory (which is set in config.xml). i.e. E:\xbmp\ or wherever xbmp is located 8. You're now ready to go, start xbmp and select TV Guide from the main menu. Controls ---------------------------------------------------------------- Start - Settings A - Display Show description B - Jump to Current Time X - Display Favorite channels only Y - Add/Remove channel from favorites Also: Hold Right Trigger with D-Pad to move Time/Channel a page at a time Additional info ----------------------------------------------------------------- Initial configuration seems like a lot of steps, but once you're setup, updating the listings is pretty easy. I've included some scripts you can edit to send new listings to xbmp with a single command. Look in the update-scripts directory that came with the zip, and you can edit update-listing.bat and ftpscript.txt to match the configurations of your xbox, and then update-listing.bat can be run to get a new listing with xmltv and send it to the xbox. It would be nice if the xmltv listing extraction could be contained within the xbmp code, but this would be an extremely difficult task. It would require being able to embed perl code in code compilable by the xbox, or rewriting all the perl scripts in C. I plan to look into embedding perl into xbox code if there is enough interest in this entire tv guide feature. [==== end paste ====] The contents of the two files he refers two are: update-listing.bat: xmltv.exe tv_grab_na > listing.xml if exist listing.xml ftp -s:ftpscript.txt ftpscript.txt: open 192.168.0.3 xbox xbox cd E/Applications/xbmp ascii send listing.xml bye Yes the dos .bat file just calls the other. You get the picture. If you're too lazy or not confident in copying/pasting these contents into your own .bat/.txt files, you may find the originals inside his patch: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/download.php?group_id=64793&atid=508680&file_id=45264&aid=704790 Unzip it, look in the update-scripts directory. I tested this, it seems to work quite nicely, and is extremely responsive. Getting it set up takes only a few minutes. However, the formatting does not fit properly on my 4:3 NTSC teleivision, as the contents of the TV Guide are pushed signifigantly off-screen. Now that we have one more option on the main XBMP screen, I think it's time for options to disable/enable categories (tv guide, apps, video, etc). CVS Notes: - tvguide - Fixed 703857 - Calibration settings are reset if resolution changes - Make xbmsp connection to disconnect if server end gets stuck for over 10 seconds. Xbmp did earlier survive nicely from the situations where xbmsp server dies and connection socket is disconnected but if the server gets stuck leaving the connection open, xbmp would eventually freeze. 3-16-2003 Nothing checked in yesterday, so no build. Lots of stuff today, however. An "auto play" option has been added which effects many files. Config.xml updated with three new tags; autolaunchcdda, autolaunchdvd and autolaunchxbox. They are set to "true" or "false". There are also two new cut files as examples. "CD Player.cut" and "DVD Player.cut". Unfortunately the auto play doesnt happen _WITHIN_ xbmp yet, it just calls external applications. Refer to the two aforementioned .cut files to set the apps it uses for playback. If you don't edit them, it defaults to the xboxdash for DVD and CD. Skin.xml updated for 16:9 720x576. Lang-1 updated with tuple 217,Auto Load. CVS Notes explain other bugfixes/features: - auto play option - updated 720x576 16:9 - use bilinear interpolation for resizing pictures. Gives much better quality - Bugfix for #695715 - Stuck Save "Playlist" Dialog Box. All controllers can now clear dialogs, instead of just the last one - Speed fixes for DNS resolution - 'B' buttons now cancels the control panel - 'B' button now backs out of the OSD (as well as Y/BACK - we need some interface redesign ;-) - latest mplayer changes - Bugfix for #697363 -cd1, -cd2 switches to selection screen before playing 3-14-2003 Config.xml updated to show .m3u as a valid extension for Videos. - new xbms patches - fix "703247 stopping slideshow = stopping mp3 " - fix "703257 mp3 ffwd instead of skip in goom-mode " - Bugfix #703222 - video playlists dont start (on load) 3-13-2003 All lang files updated. Lots of bugfixes, per the CVS notes: - fix 702568 AV sync problems with PVA files - fix 702393 Control panel wont disapear - fix 701877 Control Panel doesnt show up - fix 701873 slight bug in graphics, Even with default cvs skin - disable postprocessing by default - .pls stream recording support - fix bug in 'settings' graphics 3-12-2003 Good stuff. Skin.xml updated quite a bit for 720p and 1080i. There's a tag added to config.xml to specify which res you're using, instead of modifying the skin.xml file to set the default. It's explained in config.xml. Lang-1.xml updated with Tuple "406,Cannot set resolution to", "407,Not supported by current video settings", "408,Not supported by skin". It also displays your video mode on the root XBMP screen. A newer version of Goom Viz was ported, so now we get different types of visualization styles. As noted below, it supports FPS counter and song titles, but since it's being rendered at 320x320, they look like shit and are disabled for now. They will be enabled in a different manner in the future. I should also mention that there seem to be a fair amount of deadtime w/ this viz. It seems to be the fault of the original code (goom 1.99) as I tested it w/ the same mp3 on WMP9 and had identical results. So, for now, some people may be dissatisifed. BMP and PNG images are now supported. Config.xml updated with these two extensions. - new version of picture library now supports .png / .bmp as well - latest version of goom (1.99) port. includes textoutput support but looks crap so has been left disabled (for now) - Fixed a bug where splash screen doesn't show if tag is set. Now splash screen shows unless .cut file is found, which makes XBMP run as dash. - Improved error handling for when resolution set in config.xml is not available. If requested resolution is not supported by current Xbox video settings or by skin.xml, then XBMP quits with an error explaning why. - The tag in skin.xml is no longer necessary b/c the resolution selected is based solely on the tag in config.xml. - Added tag in config.xml - Initial support for hdtv resolutions: 720p and 1080i - skin.xml needs to be updated for those 2 resolutions. - Bugfixed #694301 - In music playlist, focus jumps to top when selecting a song 3-11-2003 Looks like the dev team is concentrating on bugfixes. Config.xml updated with .nfo extention for all media types. Codecs.conf updated. CVS notes: - fixed "701225 crash when FF to end (in visz) when playing playlist " - fix: reset zoom/stretch setting after playing (s)vcd - updated for realaudio/video (not working yet) - trying to get quicktime/realplayer 2 work (doesnt work yet, but we're getting there) - fix compiler warning - Extract imdb url and corresponding info from .nfo file (if selected in My Videos) - TODO: if white button pressed search for only .nfo file in current dir and display that, if more than one do nothing. - TODO: if white button pressed while over a non-.nfo file, attempt to find similarly named nfo file and display. 3-10-2003 All lang files updated. There are also empty folders for Bookmarks, IMDb, Playlists, Thumbs to correspond with the xml file, per Gamester17. Many bugs fixed, according to CVS notes: - fixed 700080 BACK in visz goes to my videos instead of my music - fixed bug: 700122 "My Pictures" items are sorted in inverse order - fix 700529 Nasty flicker of GUI when toggling with X from video or viz - only use DeInterlace filter if enabled in decoder settings - bugfix: using post processing #1 resulted in many framedrops and/or frames rendered too early/late 3-9-2003 Lang-1.xml udpated with tuple 191, Deinterlace. Shoutcast streams also now load quickly again (they were taking 30+ seconds in the last few days' builds). CVS notes: - added deinterlace filter for interlaced files. Enable/disable it in the decoder settings ui - fixed bug when viewing pics after visz - fix broken subtitles 3-8-2003 - fix 2gb limit for relax/local hd - fix .pls (now works over network share) 3-7-2003 Config.xml updated to show .pls as a valid audio type. .pls files are shoutcast streams without the somewhat proprietary .sc format. There is a slight bug, in that it won't play .pls files over an SMB share, but they do work locally. nroc is working to fix this. Output to all speakers also once more works. Goom viz has been "improved" in that everything is slightly more exaggerated now. CVS Notes: - less black = good (for goom viz) - fix avsync issue which occured after choosing another audio stream - .pls support - fixed 'output to all speakers??' - fix small bookmark bug & added german 2 vob/dvd subs 3-6-2003 Config.xml updated w/ tag, so image types are no longer hard coded. All lang files updated w/ "crop" tag from yesterday. More things may be updated today, but I'm out for the afternoon as of now. 3-5-2003 Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 190, Auto Cropdetect. Shoutcast streams now show the trackname in the lower corner when playing, which was about the only thing missing in that department. There's a slight glitch here, the fade in/out of the track/song title isnt really a fade, more of a 'snap'. CVS Notes: - fix seeking with ir remote 0-9 - fix some a/v sync issues - added crop detection filter to decoder settings UI - show shoutcast artist/song info 3-4-2003 And the features keep on coming. XBMP now can save shoutcast streams directly to the HDD! This, there is now a "recordingpath" tag in config.xml. Lang files have been updated w/ tuple 107,Record and 110,Stop Rec. The saving of shoutcast streams is pretty straightforward. Here's a quote right from the author of this patch (neineinei): Basically, when starting a Shoutcast file (.sc) a new button "Record" will become active. When pushing the button, the stream will be recorded to the configured and a red "REC" signal will blink in the upper left of XBMP to signal the recording state. The button will now change to "Stop Rec." and when pushed, recording is stopped but the playing of the stream isn't interrupted. Of course, if one pushes stop on the remote or changes to another file, the recording is also stopped. Also, files are saved in a subdir of your "recordingpath" dir corresponding to the name of the shoutcast stream. Each file is saved with an appropriate filename, and an ID3 tag is added. The ID3 tag depends on the metadata received from the stream itsself. If it does have the appropriate data, the MP3 will be saved with a filename correspdonding to the artist and song name. If the data is unavailable, it will save a new file each time you hit "record" such as "JAZZMUSIQUE - 1.mp3" from a stream called "JAZZMUSIQUE". This seems pretty stable, as I've been listening to a station through many songs, recording them all, with goom visualization playing, and even ftping a few of the MP3s to/from the xbox! Shoutouts to "neineinei" for submitting this patch, and to Frodo and the XBMP team for implimenting it! If you appreciate the efforts of the XBMP team (and you must, especially since you're using a CVS build) _PLEASE_ donate to them via paypal at: http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/newweb/info_contrib.htm CVS Notes: - Shoutcast ripping to HD - fix a/v sync issue with 'sweet home alabama' 3-3-2003 Whoops, I accidentally called yesterday March 3 in the README. That's really today. Anyhow, goom is MUCH more vibrant now! And the gui now works as-expected. Goom viz doesnt start until you exit the GUI w/ X. You also can bring up the nav menu w/ A. Goom goes away w/ A, but bring it right back with X a few times. In earlier builds today goom was set to 640x480, now it's 320x320. It is MUCH smoother in this mode, and there skips in audio at times at the higher resolution. 320 looks *GREAT*, however. - goom now fully working - use 320x320 for goom 3-2-2003 Minor changes again today. Skin.xml updated w/ OSD color changes and widescreen tweaks. MrDoubleYou updated XBFilezilla to 1.2 the other day, and now this has been implimented into XBMP. You must upgrade to the .8.3 filezilla admin tool if you use it. And, oh ya. MP3 Visualization! It auto-loads when you play an MP3. For now, I havent found a way out of the vis screen. It appears that the GUI is still noticing what you're doing (I was able to get my xbox to shut off by slamming on keys). So, for MP3 playback, this days' release is good for the drool factor. I played a few Mpeg videos, they still worked fine. Since this is the first day of Goom visualization, this is to be expected. There's a good chance that more cvs updates could be made today, but many are anxious to see visualization, so here it is in its current form. Also, I had to make a slight change to the skin.xml, it was setting widescreen as the default res, giving my 4:3 NTSC television just black. If you have widescreen, go ahead and set 720x576 to TRUE. Here's the CVS notes: - first version of goom mp3 visz - added xbfilezilla 1.2 - latest ffmpeg codecs & disable 'filter movie/audio filenames' by default -720x576 corrected (skin.xml) 3-1-2003 Looks like frodo's taking a few much needed days of light-coding, so there was no release yesterday, and few changes today. XBMP as dashboard fixed, after a three day hiatus. Five lang files updated (4,5, 22, 42, 44). That's it for now. CVS Notes: - fix dashboard function 2-27-2003 Skin.xml updated with slight change to Icon view. Many people were reporting in forums that it does NOT function as a dash, and I can confirm this. Some people reported it working, but I rechecked out the code entirely (instead of "cvs update -d"), and this is still the case. Also, the splash screen does not display, which is probably related to this. Many (myself included) were curious as to what the "home" tag is for in config.xml. Well, here's one: XBMP now looks for "FileZilla Server.xml" in the location that you have the "home" tag set to, NOT in the root of C any longer. I spent about an hour going mad trying to discover why it no longer let me CDUP to the root until I discovered it was reading the XML file in the XBMP dir. I verified this by connecting w/ the filezilla admin tool and changing the welcome message; indeed it saves its settings to the appropriate XML file. CVS notes: - fix bug: xbmp selected wrong audio stream for multi audio movies - Fixed a bug in SetMode which sets the mode to NULL if you pass in an unknown resolution 2-26-2003 Skin.xml updated with a new mode, 720x576. All lang files updated. All of the lang files have now been updated w/ the last weeks changes. CHANGELOG.TXT also updated. It seems that there are new codecs for MPEG1&2, possibly because many people were reporting some issues in the past few days' of CVS builds. - fix dashboard function - new liba52 & mpeg 1/2 codecs 2-25-2003 Listed in the CVS notes is "bug fixes". Apparently this is for linux SMB issues, as well as other things. Skin.xml updated with OSD and Subtitle parameters. Config.xml updated with new tag,and a few example paths were changed for playlists/thumbs/bookmarks/imdb. Config.xml updated to show better example explanation of smb. CVS Notes: - only scroll filenames in icon mode if necessary - fix icon view - show selected item @ top in icon mode - aligned picture with buttons - fixed cut off icons in icon mode & added de-interlace filter for progressive movies. Enabled if default PP is enabled - bug fixes - some skinning bugfixes - keep AR for imdb pictures & generated thumbs - fixed imdb crash - fixed glowing power down buttons & added home directory setting to config.xml 2-24-2003 config.xml updated w/ "scrollysuffix" tag. This is the seperator to indicate the break for the end/beginning of hte filename. XBMS fixes. The FTP server FINALLY supports going to root dir! Use its new FileZilla Server.xml file to make this happen. Skin.xml was updated with a few changes. Lang-1.xml updated with MANY tuples for OSD. This CVS also includes an update from MomDad to say "Programs" instead of "Applications" when on that particular screen. CHANGELOG.TXT updated. Lastly, one more bit of excellent news. There has been some progress in acheiving audio visualization in XBMP. A developer (kris) has apparently ported a visualization library (goom) it to the Xbox. However, it has _NOT_ been implimented into XBMP yet. For more info/screenshots on Goom, their homepage is is http://ios.free.fr/?page=projet&quoi=1 . CVS notes: - ffmpeg/mplayer updates of 23-2-2003 - fix problem that after loading an .m3u file the playlist shows the .m3u filename for all files - fix auto shuffle on load - latest xbfilezilla changes, dont forget to put shortcut to xbmp on C:, otherwise it wont work - latest SF patches 2-23-2003 skin.xml (album preview position), FileZilla Server.xml (root dir, FINALLY!), lang-1.xml (tuple 267,Auto Shuffle playlist on load) were updated. I tested the root dir newness in filezilla's xml, but was unable to chdir into it (I tried the default homedir to be /, but it still seemed to shove me in the homedir that I had previously set). Sorry this build is late in the day, but that's life :) It'll be out at the usual time tommorow, which is normally noonish eastern, if frodo has code checked in. - added option: auto shuffle when loading a playlist - show 4 thumbs for 4:3 and 5 for 16:9 - fix bug that the imb plot isnt shown for some movies like ringu.avi - latest patches from SF - fix background pics - fix bug for movies without plot - added 16:9 section and same for 4:3 (skin.xml) 2-22-2003: Config.xml was updated w/ a new tag (time in seconds). Skin.xml updated slightly for better layout since the switch to 720x480 yesterday. Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 216, AM/PM (other lang files still waiting for update). Media/osd*.bmp have been updated again. A partially new skin has been added to cvs, called "eldany_skin.rar". I won't include this in this package due to its size (1.5mb), but you can grab it from CVS, or it'll get around. Also, I'm now going to include an updated CHANGELOG.TXT with the CVS builds. This contains a verbatim copy/paste of the journal that the devs are keeping in CVS. I'll note here when it's updated. Here's the CVS notes: - more shoutcast error handling, fix crash in my music & new volume bar for osd - updated the change log - added xmbs login/password support - AM/PM / 24hour clock setting - fixed more crashes - added more skinning options in skin.xml - better layout (skin.xml) - k, ir number 0-9 are supported in osd menu now as well - moved bookmarks->OSD 2-21-2003: Skin.xml updated. New graphics in Media dir (osd*.bmp) for new OSD feature. Here's what's up w/ the OSD stuff. It's a keen new feature which allows you to calibrate audio/video/volume/etc on a nice overlay over the video clip you may be playing. This allows you to see what exactly "soften" does (and other things) while the video is playing. It appears that this could replace the "settings" menu altogether, if wanted. However, there's still value in getting to these settings as we're used to. The graphics in this OSD mode don't mesh with the rest yet, so they'll have an overhaul at some point. A note regarding the skin.xml. For whatever reason, the default res has been changed from 640x480 to 720x480. This gives us with a 4:3 television a slight "squished" effect, although it's quite acceptable. You will have to recalibrate your screen settings to have it fit your screen better. Lastly, there will probably be some more code checked in today, but I'm busy in the latter-half of the day, so I put out the build now. You can always wait for tommorow :) - fix switching between truetype & mplayer subtitles - first version of the OSD, graphics are not done yet and its still premature. Use white controller button to see the OSD - more osd changes 2-20-2003: config.xml updated with new share examples, but NO NEW tags. codecs.conf was also updated. The rest is as reads here: - fixed vobsub subtitle position - fixed wmv8 (codecs.conf) - fixed vobsub colors - added xbmsp streaming support (ccxstream) (thx to PuhPuh) - fixed choppy playback - bug fixed, truetype subtitles showed previous line before showing the current line - fixed too late/too early rendering - fixed .m3u from relax/smb - more imdb fixes - bug fixed. Failed to create thumbnail from cached imdb info 2-19-2003: - fix crash in imdb - fixed another imdb problem - fix flickering bug while watching imdb when playing & added scrolling - patch fix for freedisk space 2-18-2003: Config.xml updated with tag, which is where it keeps its imdb cache. Lang-1.xml updated with Tuple 215,Refresh. Other lang files will have to have this added until they're updated. - cache imdb info on HD - show free disc space - fixed vobsub subtitles 2-17-2003: Indeed, XBMP 2.3 came out, and is now obsolete (in my opinion :) with this update. Lang-1.xml updated with tuple 189 (Anamorphic Source), config.xml updated with tag. Splash screen updated with new 2.3 image. - added precache option & fixed smb bug - fix popup of info screen & invalid pagecounters in my videos & others - fixed imdb crash 2-16-2003: Some ported codecs (xvid, mplayer) appear to have been updated. Lang files all updated, Code now says XBMP 2.3 :) - latest translations - added italian DVD subtitle language - kris AR fix 2-15-2003: - more aspect ratio stuff - dont show black screen between 2 pics - fix problem for not seeing files in SMB dirs - dont show screensaver while playing video & fix thumbnail bug for linux xbms - don't use relax BACK command anymore - 684485 use controller to stop seeking aswell 2-14-2003: Happy VD! Now, onto XBMP. Config.xml has been updated- there was a typo in it with a '.' after the tag. There were some unspecified SMB issues fixed. - reverse the up/down controls - removed confirmation when exiting xbmp, users don't like it - fix aspect ratio issues (pictures/movies) for both 4:3 & 16:9 - and finally the last Aspect Ratio fix - fix [more] aspect ratio issues - show crcs for bookmarks, and show time when cycling through bookmarks 2-13-2003: There was a lack of CVS notes upon code checkin, but here's what I noticed. A few releases away *SHOULD* be the ability to act as a snapstream client, but it is DISABLED and you will not notice anything in the GUI for this for now. Please don't bother the developers about this feature as they are working on it. I also encountered a new strange "bug" on my network that may help someone get SMB running if they're having troubles. It doesnt seem to connect if your SMB server can't resolve the xbox by name. Samba was giving a Gethostbyaddr error, which cleared up once I added the xbox's ip/name to /etc/hosts. - XBMP now asks for confirmation when rebooting/exiting to dash - L/R triggers act as page up/down in large lists of file/dirnames - Thumbnail fixes - Config.xml new tags: , , and - Lang-1 updated (related to snapstream) REMEMBER! SNAPSTREAM IS _NOT_ ACTIVE AND WILL NOT BE ANY TIME SOON! THERE IS NO REASON TO BOTHER DEVELOPERS ABOUT THESE FEATURES! 2-11-2003: Config.xml updated to show a better smb example, and use E: local hdd shares instead of F:. The useless Shoutcast share example was also removed. - fix radio button for slideshow in general settings menu - fix crashes for linux xbms - Display title ip address in top left hand corner of home UI (where available) - fix audio/decoder settings menu - go out of screensaver if any key is pressed either remote or controller - fix thumbnails - Removed annoying debug output 2-10-2003: Config.xml updated, with tag. Codecs.conf updated. Filezilla re- enabled, with a newer updated version of its library. Remember to put "FileZilla Server.xml" in the root of C to be able to ftp to the xbox. The filezilla lib is still "broken", in that you're locked into your Home dir (F by default) and there are Colons in the name of the dirs. (F: intsead of just F, D: instead of D). So, compatability with custom apps such as Xbox-saves will be broken for now. FTP Transfers now seem to work properly, as some didn't before. Here are the CVS notes: - better FF/RW - fixed bug which caused many different crashes - fix crash on pause - fix pagecounter - fix bug which causes some movies not 2 b found on imdb - fix flipping for thumbs - fixed fps info & FF - Added 'generate thumbs' for IMDB - re-enabled ftp server & updated .libs to xbfilezilla 1.1 - added croatian dvd subtitle - new project files - fix memory leak, applied button & screensaver patched, fixed avsync for (s)vcd - convert HTML chars->ansi chars - fix bug 2-9-2003: IMDB is here! Only lang-1.xml was updated, so if you use another language, add 150,IMDb to your xml file until the rest are translated/updated. IMDB support works as follows: highlight the movie you wish to "look up", press press White, and it will look it up. As a test, I named an Mpeg file Star_wars.mpg, it then brought me to a screen allowing me to choose between Star Wars (1977), and Attack of the Clones. Choosing Star Wars gave me a picture and a description. However, when I chose Episode II, it crashed. That's life, for now. CVS Notes: - IMDB truncate plot to 4000 characters. - lang-1.xml - show dialog with error if imdb lookup fails - don't use DNS for imdb - IMDB support - fixed big memory leak for vobsub subtitles - allow switching dvd audio/subtitle languages while playing - fix crash for plots > 4096 chars - fixed image downloading/displaying for IMDB 2-8-2003: Codecs.conf was updated, grab the new one out of this archive. "Settings-> Decoder" now shows two options for language settings for DVD playback. Pressing "black" during playback is now more readable due to background color. CVS notes: - nicer GUI for showing FF/RW - better FF/RW for streaming - latest codecs.conf - latest mplayer/ffmpeg/xvid bugfixes - added more DVD subtitle languages - fix font.h compiling error - apply deinterlace filter for DVDs 2-7-2003: Updated Lang files again. Someone claimed that DVD playback wasn't working, so rechecked w/ The Matrix. Worked no problem. I just noticed that the aspect ratio is now kept when you hit "A" during video playback, and it works smoothly even using higher bitrate videos (DVD, for example). I dont know if this is new today, but it is in the last few days. Also, I had issues with AV sync on DVD playback in the previous days, but now do not. CVS Notes: - fix choppy playback for .wmv/.wma - final fix caching for .wmv files - fixed international GUI - fill cache for 30% (when streaming) before starting playback - cut of text which doesn't fit in the dialog box 2-6-2003: Updated lang files. Shoutcast buffers MUCH faster. It actually DID work in yesterdays build, after tring a few more streams. Now all of these streams work today that didnt yesterday. Here's the CVS notes: - added some debug info for finding SMB bugs - fix compiler warnings - added vobsub subtitle support & DVD audio/subtitle language selection in decoders settings GUI - dvd subtitles work 2 now - fix avsync problems for mpeg2 files 2-5-2003: TrueType fonts are enabled, check config.xml's tag. A few Locale files updated (8, 27, 41). Shoutcast native support appears to be there! There is an example .sc file included, put it or one like it in an accessable spot, add "sc" as a valid extention to config.xml, and click on it. It appears to be somewhat functional, however for me it connects, buffers to 32768, and for me it just hangs. I tried 5 different streams, all with the same results. Your results may vary. Since TTF support is now included for fonts, I've removed the non- default "big" fonts (common-font14.big.xpr) from the media dir. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the 1-13-2003 blurb in this readme, or just do nothing and keep the font that's there now. Now you may use your good ol TTF fonts if you desire. And last but certainly not least, _it once again loads without the .cut file present_ ! Here are the CVS notes: - show buffering status for .sc files - fix compilation error for some .xpr files - GUI internationalization by using truetype fonts instead of .xpr files (see config.xml on how to enable it) - fix stop after 5:21 mins - dont gimme that headcheck failed warning all the time - oops forgot 2 files;-) - shoutcast from xbmp (using .sc files) - fix shoutcast stop after 1 track - fixed hangup for files like shoutcast.pls.mp3 2-4-2003: A lot of people had a lot of issues with yesterdays build. REMEMBER! This is CVS code; it's certain to have a lot of bugs. If it doesn't work, go look at the bug tracker at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=64793&atid=508678 If it's already listed, don't relist it. Just sit back, relax for a few days, and maybe your bug will get fixed. Now, onto the goodies. IFO playback on DVD's now work! Get to your DVD drive using UDF (its in the config.xml sample) and play away. Ensure that "ifo" is in your . I put in Memento and The Matrix, both played. However, audio sync was WAY off. I didnt troubleshoot this w/ a/v sync settings, feel free to do so. This was with an original Xbox DVD drive. Also, there is no current way to access DVD menus. Lastly, the .cut file that was mandatory as of yesterdays release, well, STILL IS. If it's not there, it will HANG at loading, if it's incorrect, it will kick you back to evox. Here are the CVS notes: - fix video playlist bug that after a while it only shows the preview window instead of fullscreen - fix up/down controls get disabled wrong - fixed iso9660 Mode I - code cleanup - playback of DVD .ifo files now works - fixed bug that 2nd time .ifo file didn't play - Fix for buffer alignment with regular sector reads - Fix for regular/mode2 read 2-3-2003: !!!WARNING! Due to a bug in today (and yesterday's skipped) CVS, You MUST have "XBOX Media Player.cut" in the root of C for this build to run. If you don't, it wil just hang at the loading screen. The syntax of this file is simple, just view it in a text editor. You simply point it to where xbmp's default.xbe exists. Yep, yesterday's CVS was skipped. FileZilla was added later on Feb 1st, but there was some flakiness to it. Feb 2nd build wouldnt run properly on many systems (mine included) so I didn't release it. Filezilla has now been disabled for the moment, but certainly will return. You'll see that there's now a "FileZilla Server.xml" file included. This will go in the root of your C partition. Here's the CVS notes: - VCD/SVCD Mode2 Playback - fixed scratchy sounds (use latest codecs.conf) - disabled filezilla ftp server for now - fixed aspect ratio (thx kris) - fixed iso9660, pause on mp3 and playlist selection - fix relax thumbnails - fixed ff/rw for ogg/ogm - fix pagecounter - added xbfilezilla (ftp server). Thx 2 MrDouble - added mapping for C: so it works in the ftp server 2-1-2003: Lots of bugfixes, including for relax. Updated "XBOX Media Player.cut" (just comments added). Shoutcast support is added and shows in the config.xml, I tried several streams, all froze XBMP. I asked frodo, he confirmed to consider it broken for now. New tag added to all shares, . It's optional for local hdd "streams", but is included in the hdd videos as an example. Lastly, a neeto new features is to pull L+R triggers while a video is playing, and it will create a thumbnail for it for icon mode. Here's the CVS notes: - fix relax problems - more relax fixes - latest xvid codec of 1-2-2003 - relax port numbers and per share buffer sizes - Press left+right trigger while playing a video creates a thumbnail - fix crash on loading dirs with mp3's - .m3u support for my videos - Allow one level of shortcut indirection. - Updated lang files - Updated config.xml 1-31-2003: - latest ffmpeg & mplayer changes - show icon for folders/files - speeded up id3tag reading for relax/smb/iso9660 1-30-2003: Scrolling now works in icon mode on all types of files. Lang files were updated. Left/Right on D-Pad now goes back/forth for pictures. You may now zoom pictures, but ONLY from the IR remote (buttons 0-9). And, last but certainly not least, *Video Playlists*. This works the same as audio playlists. - lang files updated - the long awaited video playlist;-) - fixed mp3 subtitle downloading and some relax hangup bugs - added zoom to my pictures - Param passing - smooth scrolling [of long filenames] - scroll filenames in icon mode as well - fix bug. scrolling now works in slideshow mode - Removed superfluous logging 1-29-2003: Only about 2hours after compiling 1-27, here's this one. There was only one comment for the cvs updates: - fixed aspect ratio, page counter, id3 for relax and other things One of the "Other things" I noticed was that thumbs may now be build for gif/jpg for smb (and maybe relax?) shares. 1-27-2003: I intentionally didnt compile on the 27th, because the buildtime.h wasn't updated, and I wrongly assumed that more cvs updates would happen that day. It didnt, so I decided to compile after being pushed on irc :) There's a new line in config.xml under , which is . Anyhow, here are the updates: - added separate folder for thumbnails - fixed aspect ratio and generate thumbs option in my pictures - fix playback for some mp3s - fixed ff/rw for mp3's - fixed artists/songs view - show artists & song names in my music - fix loading .m3u files with show id3tag option off 1-26-2003: The CVS notes say it all. However, only lang-1.xml has been updated for the playlist save dir, so you'll have to view it and add this line to your lang file if non-english. Surely they will all get the update shortly. Also, there is a new tag in config.xml under . One last thing, the m3u support is incredibly nice! The current song playing fades in and out at the bottom of the screen showing different ID3 tag info. Also, if the song title is too long to display, it scrolls in the selection list. sweet. Enjoy the Super Bowl! - added previous to playlist & save playlist in special dir mentioned in config.xml - remember position in directories - latest mplayer changes - latest XVID codec of 25-1-2003 - fix 2 id3tag bugs - more mp3 id3 tag info - remove 22 compiler warnings 1-25-2003: - show id3 tag info for mp3's - lang files updated - latest ffmpeg codecs of 25-1 1-24-2003: The CVS notes say it all: - new slideshow & fixed overlapping buttons in home gui - fix files > 2gb & FFWD for mpeg2 1-23-2003: The README.TXT in the dll dir has been updated to the one that's just been checked into CVS. This appears that it will be updated to show which codecs funciton. An example "XBOX Media Player.cut" file is also now included, which would go in your root of C should you desire to boot to XBMP as your dash (or to disable the splash screen.) This is explained in detail on the xbmp forums at http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de. And lastly, it looks like there's going to be some type of IMDB support. However, there's no docs on this, and since I don't have l33ched videos, I have no clue. Play around. Here are the cvs notes: - fixed SMB bugs - IMDB grabber classes - removed checkmarks for my xxxx 1-22-2003: Not much new here, I wasn't going to build it, but it appears that XNS (relax) was broken in yesterdays release. Also, the config.xml has been prettied up a bit. Here's the CVS notes: - fix some fixed path/filename lengths from 128->1024 - fixed video files with have .mp3 in the filename - fix problem that conversion of subtitles to correct language slows down the movie - stupid bug preventing relax to work 1-21-2003: Big changes! XBMP now supports multiple remote shares for each context (video, pictures, music). "Shared XXXXX" has gone away, and now when you access "music" or whatnot, your "root" is choices you have from your XML file. This seems very practical to me, and I'm enjoying it. Config.xml has some huge new section for this. The tags have gone away, and and have moved out of . ALL shares are configured this way: ISO9660, local drives, and SMB and relax. Here's an example: relax d:\pictures@192.168.1.175 SMB smb://testje:testje@Solvision/mokkalaptop/pics HD f:\pictures UDF D: ISO9660 iso9660: There is also a new section. It seemed that in theory you could possibly launch an app via smb if there were only one .xbe needed, and it cached it locally, but it froze as soon as I tried to access the share. This could make you MORE or LESS curious, I don't know :) 1-20-2003: There's a new option in config.xml: . The right trigger will jump to next song in playlist if you are viewing the main menu screens, NOT if you are at black screen and/or with play/pause bar on screen. Black button will bring up lots of useful info on the clip you are playing. - fix .bin files for xbms - remote skip+ / right trigger jumps 2 next file in playlist - libiconv for international subtitles - black button now works as remote INFO 1-19-2003: The Status report has now been moved to the xbplayer page located at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xbplayer This will allow for a more streamline interface for the devs to see open issues and feature requests. ** Please log all bug requests and feature requests on the sourceforge page now. ** The bug that caused a loss of video is now fixed. There are new options in "Settings" for resetting to defaults, as well as using Mplayer subtitles. There has been a DRAMATIC increase of speed when scrolling through the available media. It goes far too fast as is, but likely it will be slowed down/configureable in the future. The "2.2" xbmp logo is also now integrated into this release. Here are the cvs notes: - latest ffmpeg (19-1-2003) - latest xvid codec from 19-1-2003 - Use texture manager to minimize RAM usage. - MP3 pause fixed & play after FF/RW fixed - fixed hangup @ end of movie by not switching back to pal 50 - if slideshow setting=0 then wait until user presses A key - select between truetype/mplayer subtitle fonts 1-18-2003: Sourceforge CVS was inaccessable to non-project members for several days. Here are blurbs from the CVS checkin regarding new features and fixes in the last few days. There may be more.: - fixed 00:08 / 00:09 bug - show the thumbnail of the folder if a file in the folder doesn't have a thumnbail. - iso9660 mode 1 full directory support is working now - support for international subs (if they are saved as unicode!!!) - removed scratchy noise @ start of mp3 - fixed mp3 seeking - latest mplayer changes However, there is a GLARING bug. At the end of playback of a audio or video clip, the screen will go black. The media player still runs, and you can choose options, but you cannot see anything on screen. 1-13-2003: An "official" 2.2 was released yesterday, but image viewing via SMB was broken. New codecs for image viewing are implimented (libimage), and now it's working. A new feature is "rotate 90 degrees" via the Y button while viewing a photo. The EvoX IGR reset issues are also cleaned in this CVS. Lastly, the font is back to the default from 2.2, which I considered unreadable and caused some options to stretch off-screen. If you want it back, replace "common-font14.xpr" with "common-font14.big.xpr", in the media dir. 1-12-2003: SMB support is enabled! Look in config.xml to see how to utilize. All lang files are updated for m3u saving. Notes on the SMB support; it works, however there are a few bugs. When first connecting to a share, it didn't want to show me the remote contents until I went 'up' a directory (B) a few times. Furthermore, it allows you to 'escape' the shared environment. I shared d:\mp3 on a windows box, and it was able to go 'up' a dir, showing me the c$, d$, and any other shares. However, the permissions are still active and it won't allow you to browse where your user doesn't have access. Lastly, when you're playing a music file, it will show your password in the 'url' field at the bottom of the screen. 1-10-2003a: It seems that the last release today wasn't patched for retail. It now is. Also, the choppy playback issues have been fixed. 1-10-2003: It seems that the last update screwed up some video playback. Frodo checked in some files with the comment of "fix playback". However, this doesnt seem to address this issue of choppy videos, but the yet unsupported SMB code. So, I can't see any differences between this release and the prior, other than .xbe size :) 1-9-2003: Well,it looks like the folks are getting ambitious. This has SMB and DVD playback in its src, but they are currently disabled. However, it DOES have a huge new feature, namely *M3U SUPPORT*! It can read AND save playlists. Furthermore, it has the ability to keep songs on the playlist. I tested the playlist support, and can get it working for locally stored media, but not streamed (I don't use relax, I use xbms. Your results may vary!) There is also a new 'Soften' option in the screen settings. Note that only lang-1 (english) has been updated, so feel free to update the others yourself. 1-8-2003: According to the CVS notes, this should have the ability to disable ISO9660 caching. There were typos in the lang files which are now fixed, however the option still doesn't appear properly. So, there's a 'hidden' option on the general screen below the last one. Checking it will enable caching, uncecking it will disable. Other new goodies include a change to the config.xml which allows you to specify the buffer size for streams. New in the past few days is still libdll support. Tt should in the future allow XBMP to play wmv9, ra, qt6, etc files. This is working and buggy at the moment. DLLs were too large to distro, so get them from the following url and throw them in the 'dll' dir: http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/ Here's the latest status report, however it's way out of date and isnt being updated very often lately (cmon troll123! :) The most recent version of this status update may be found at: http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/ib31/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=1108
