-= experimental =- 25th July 2003

bert.xtf was heavily changed... Keep in mind this
is all experimental but the changes look very
promising... maybe this is the breakthrough in
stability...

--- from here old text

These fonts are experimental. They are the sum
of several ideas to make the exploit better.

They seem to work fine. But this was of course
only tested on a few boxes of different revisions.

They do not contain any code that is Microsoft
specific. Everything within the font files is
documented somewhere in src/tutorial files all
over the web.

Well the blinking red light was deactivated for
now, because it is surely not good for the LED.

It has come to my attention that a wrong installation
(like forgetting to rename the original fonts or
removing other hacks) can have strange impact.
The testbox (that was the reason why I took down
the fonts) booted flawlessly into linux without
a single additional reboot. But when the clock died
it only looped and looped. It turned out that this
was only caused by a broken installation.
(this is the reason why 21th July Fonts were taken
down, the 20th are still dangerous for a lot of
people)

So before people start saying: bigfonts doesnt fix
shit for me, or bigfonts has the eject problem,
which reloaded had not, I advise you to check your
installation. Neither bigfonts nor reloaded have
code in it to fix the eject problem. The eject
problem has nothing to do with the fonts, but with
some flag in the XBE header (which states if the
file may eject or not) and the BIOS. If the BIOS is
not correctly patched (neither bigfonts nor reloaded
try to do this) reset on eject is enabled if the XBE
header of the files you execute doesnt switch it off.

And NO. There is no solution for the DVD remote problem.
The box will crash if you boot with a video DVD in the drive
(or reboot). This cannot be fixed with the way the hack
works (unless we find...). But this is no problem because
you can wait until your (patched) msdashboard is loaded
and insert the DVD at this time.

Ohh and before I forget it: To correctly install this
copy ernie.xtf and bert.xtf into your fonts directory
and tripple(!) check that they are the ONLY .XTF files
within that directory. Every additional .XTF will make
the hack unstable. (Other files without a .XTF
extension are no problem)
