How to Convert videos into WMV8
formatI've
seen many posts on how do you make videos that work with unleashX so
I thought I'd make a nice little tutorial with images and all to
show you how its done.
All the bits that you have to change
or press are highlighted in YELLOW
First you will need the
Windows Media Encoder version 9 from Micros0ft. Its totally
freeware and is what this tutorial is based on. You can go to MS's
site and download it yourself or Use this link as an undirect link
to it
(this forum automatically
changes the word Micros0ft to MS so i can't direct link it)Download WME 9Once you have it downloaded
and installed Run the program you will then be presented with this
screen
Click the
Custom Session Icon and then
OK
You will now be presented with this
window

Now in the
Source tab which it should
allready be in select Source from
File then click the browse
button and find the file you want to convert. the file can be in
.asf .avi .wmv and .mpg format it will take a few seconds to
analyse the file before it displays. Now the two check boxes for
Video and Audio should be checked automatically unless the file
dosn't have an audio soundtrack in which case audio wont be

Now we need to click on the
Output tab
and change some stuff in there.
Deselect the
Pull from
Encoder box and select the
Encode to File box and enter a
file name in the box

Click on the
Compression Tab at the top
ignore all the settings and click the
Edit Button

The following dialog will pop up

Now we need to go into the Media types section of
that dialog and change the video part to look like this the
Video
mode dosn't really matter but I think that
Quality VBR
comes out the best for the size. The video Codec has to be set to
Windows media Video V8
The tab at the top will change to
Quality-based (If you selected Quaility VBR in
the previous tab) click it and
you will get the folowing page
In it you will need to change the
video size and the other bits in yellow.
For video size
if its skin background i would go with 640x480 unless its a
widescreen skin then change it to suite. For a game video preview
anything bigger that 320x200 is a waste of disk space at least for
me but its up to you if the video is smaller than those i siggest
you tick the
Same as Video Input box. In the Video Quality
box anything between 95 - 100 is great anything below is average
play with it and see what you like. the lower the figure the smaller
filesize created but worse quality.

Once done in the above dialog click the Ok
button which will close the dialog and go back to the main window
Compression tab which will now look like this
(depending on your settings) and click
Apply
at the bottom

Then on the toolbar at the top of the main
window Click the
Start Encoding button
